TAYOA has established an AIDS Information Centre for passengers using the Ubungo National Bus Station, Dar es Salaam's main long-distance bus terminal (located in Ubungo, a suburb of the capital). The Centre promotes HIV/AIDS awareness through various media and facilities, including video tapes shown on the long-distance buses and in the terminal buildings themselves, as well as kiosks providing counseling, access to HIV testing, and distribution of condoms. About 300 buses pass through the Centre each day, serving approximately 12,000 passengers, many of whom wait for long periods without many choices for diversion. Thus, the station has great potential for influence. The Finnish Embassy is funding this program for three years, starting from January 2001. TAYOA's Youth Concerns Care Solidarity Project provides most of the multi-media materials and programs that TAYOA disseminates through its center at the Ubungo National Bus Station.
