Urban Youth Mobilization for Election 2000 (COMPLETED)


Summary

TAYOA has conducted Urban Youth Mobilization for Civic Education for Election 2000 in Dar es Salaam, funded by the Donors Basket Fund for Elections 2000. The project was mainly designed to mobilize youths in Dar es Salaam Region to effectively exercise their voting rights through voters and human rights education. The entire project had targeted to reach 100,000 young men and women, through voters/human rights education, sports, and drama, with special focused on elections 2000.


Report (2000)

The project was successful conducted by over 92 per cent. During its implementation, a training of trainers workshop was conducted with the attendance of 1,200 Mtaa/street Civic Advisors (MCA) and 288 Heads of Civic Advisors (HCAs).

These trainers had turn trained 60 youths each, reach a total of 89,280 trained youths in Dar es Salaam on civic issues, rights and responsibilities, registering, and other electoral procedures in the 2000 general elections. This project had cost TShs. 41,370,000, equals to TShs. 27,533 per MCAs and HCAs, and TShs. 458 per reached and mobilized youth.
